A front-tracking/ghost-fluid method for fluid interfaces in compressible flows

چکیده
A front-tracking/ghost-fluid method is introduced for simulations of fluid interfaces in compressible flows. The new method captures fluid interfaces using explicit front-tracking and defines interface conditions with the ghost-fluid method. Several examples of multiphase flow simulations, including a shock–bubble interaction, the Richtmyer–Meshkov instability, the Rayleigh–Taylor instability, the collapse of an air bubble in water and the breakup of a water drop in air, using the Euler or the Navier–Stokes equations, are performed in order to demonstrate the accuracy and capability of the new method. The computational results are compared with experiments and earlier computational studies. The results show that the new method can simulate interface dynamics accurately, including the effect of surface tension. Results for compressible gas–water systems show that the new method can be used for simulations of fluid interface with large density differences. 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A Second Order Accurate Method in Simulation of Underwater Explosion
In this paper, a numerical scheme is proposed for the multi-fluid compressible flows. This method is applied to the problem of underwater explosion. The proposed scheme is basically the extension of Godunov method in gas dynamic problems to the multifluid environments and is second-order accurate in space. In this method, also, the problem of artificial mixing of two different phases on Euleria...

متن کاملThe Explicit Simplified Interface Method for Compressible Multicomponent Flows
Abstract. This paper concerns the numerical approximation of the Euler equations for multicomponent flows. A numerical method is proposed to reduce spurious oscillations that classically occur around material interfaces. It is based on the ”Explicit Simplified Interface Method” (ESIM), previously developed in the linear case of acoustics with stationary interfaces (2001, J. Comput. Phys. 168, p...
متن کاملA Mass Preserving SIM for SPH
Multiphase flows exist widely in daily life and many industrial processes, such as soap bubbles, rain drops, internal combustion engines, thermal spray coating, and ink-jet printing, et al. In the numerical study of multiphase flows with clear interfaces, it is extremely important to accurately track the interfaces. Many numerical methods have been developed to treat the interface, including Le...
متن کاملRandom sampling remap for compressible two-phase flows
In this paper we address the problem of solving accurately gas-liquid compressible flows without pressure oscillations at the gas-liquid interface. We introduce a new Lagrange-projection scheme based on a random sampling technique introduced by Chalons and Goatin in [CG07]. We compare it to a ghost fluid approach introduced in [WLK06, MBKKH09] which is based on the ghost fluid method for the po...
